Top 3 Free Things to Do with Kids

Explore Lubbock

1.       Legacy Play Village

A no brainer… Legacy Play Village boasts a huge outdoor play village sure to entertain kids for hours or at least an afternoon. We like to stop by Starbucks nearby on Milwaukee just north of Marsha Sharp Freeway… milk and Madeleine cookies for the kids and coffee for mom. The park is located between Marsha Sharp Freeway and Spur 327 just East of Milwaukee Avenue.

2.       Library

We’ve written about what a great place the library is for kids. So many free activities and the kids get to take home a bag of books too! I’ve spent several Saturday afternoons with my family playing in the kid’s section and picking out books. Visit the Lubbock Library system’s website for details on locations, hours, and events.

3.       Lubbock Memorial Arboretum

If your kids are into bugs or nature or just running around in the fresh air the arboretum is a cool place to visit. Boasting several different gardens, the arboretum is a great place for kids to gain a better appreciation for nature. Stroll through the gardens anytime between 5:00 AM – Midnight. The Interpretive Center, with its cool mid-century architecture, is open during Wednesday workday hours and Second Saturday programs as well as by appointment. Guided tours are available by appointment as well, just call 806-797-4520. The gardens are located at 4111 University Avenue.

  1. You can also how seeing the Prairie dogs at Mackenzie park. My teens even love it! (no littles here) We probably aren’t supposed to but we take granola bars and tempt them to come closer so we can oohhh and ahhh over them!

  2. Elyse B

A couple more free things to do with kids:
The TTU musuem! they have a great dinosaur exhibit.
The Ranching Heritage Center- we love the different houses and the jackrabbits.
The Lubbock Lake Landmark- they have a museum exhibit inside and a few trails outside that show local plants and digs going on. In the warm weather there is a large garden outside
Lubbock Memorial Arboretum/Garden and Arts Center- there are trails, a playa lake, lots of trees and flowers in the spring and summer.
