Pheasant Ridge Winery is back and better than ever! It is probably a winery you did not know was in the Lubbock area, but it has been here since 1978. It’s not big or fancy… which is fine with us. It is truly a hidden gem. Bonus: It’s extremely kid and dog friendly!
Located on CR 5700 is a metal structure with a few trees and of course, a vineyard. It is a peaceful place. We visited on a Saturday afternoon driving down dirt roads and navigating through fields, hoping we were in the right spot. We had visited the winery a few years back, but there was something more lively about the place as we parked. The greeter, a sweet dog, welcomed us to the tasting room.
Wine bottles lined the wooden bar with barrels and “award winning” signs hung up above. Before we could sit down, we had a wine glass in hand and a sheet of paper to mark down our notes. Our wine tasting expert, Dennis, poured a 2006 Chenin Blanc. He was exceptionally knowledgeable of the wines and the process to make them. After tasting five white wines, the 2006 Chardonnay was my favorite. It was buttery perfection. The whites were followed up with a series of four reds. If you are counting, that is 9 tastings… for free!
After the tasting, we partook in a couple of glasses and bought a bottle to-go to enjoy at a Texas Tech football watch party. The bottle is the award winning 3 Barrels Up in case you are interested in a crowd pleaser.
