The Freaky Tiki Tavern just celebrated its first birthday! We are not really into the bar scene, so were a little hesitant to visit. However, we were very pleasantly surprised!

The Tavern is tucked away on Texas Ave close to I-27 (2512 Texas Ave). The location is right off of the business/industrial access road. Off the bat, that made us a little nervous since the area is not one we generally frequent. The exterior is painted blue with “Freaky Tiki” signage and a tiki man. It was not fancy, but clean and welcoming. The interior was… WOW!

BarareaAs expected, the tavern had a tiki hut feel. Palm trees, sharks, tikis, surfboard tables, foosball, and a bar with blue lights. Most of the tables had some sort of game waiting to be played (cards, checkers, etc.). There were also several big TVs that were displaying music videos. The corner of the room has a small stage area and is host to musicians and comedians on some nights. The music was not too loud and a good variety of genres. We went pretty early in the evening, so the environment at that time was calm.

The drinks are beachy. We enjoyed the Freaky Margarita which is a margarita with blue curacao. Many coconut drinks, blue Hawaiians, a variety of specialty shots, and of course the Lubbock a classic, a Chilton. If you are not into the sweet drinks, there were many beer options as well.

Drinks

Now, onto the food. It was our favorite part of the whole experience. We ordered the pretzel sticks and a cheese flatbread pizza. See the picture below for the delicious pretzels. Mustard and cheese dip — it was very good. The pizza was even better. There was a good amount of cheese (maybe even a little extra) and sauce with a perfectly cooked crust. We are looking forward to going again to try out more pizzas and some of the wings (which were unavailable the night we went).

Food

The prices were reasonable, especially the drinks. The most expensive drink was $6.50 and they come in big glasses. The service was also very good. The manager (or maybe owner) was constantly cleaning something up or helping his staff. We can’t wait to go back!

    Even the bathroom is awesome

I had to wait, to visit The Freaky Tiki, until my son turned 21 (by his fervent request). I very much enjoyed my first visit (with son & husband, in tow). We each tried a different flatbread pizza AND wings & nothing disappointed. We also had almost every single specialty drink & shot on their menu. Drunken Monkey was a favorite. I really don’t think there are any negatives to mention.

  2. Comedy at Freaky Tiki

The comedy is on the First Friday of the month @ 9ish. I’ve been several times and it’s always been great

I have been several times, and always have a great time. On top of great food and fantastic drinks the theme nights and special events like lonos laugh off (a game show featuring comedians) are always a blast, but probably the best part about the place is the crowd, they are not rowdy and just very laid back. I will continue to visit every chance I get.
