Located just north of Lubbock in New Deal, Pheasant Ridge Winery is nestled amongst farm-to-market and county roads. We had a scheduled wine tasting and tour with Delisa and Jo. They were great hostesses and made us feel like we were sitting up at the bar at a friend’s house.
When you drive up to the building, stamped oak barrels are the first thing you notice on the front porch. As soon as you open the metal door, you step into the tasting room and are greeted with barstools and a spread of crackers.
Opened in 1972, Pheasant Ridge is considered the “French Wines of Texas.” The entire process is done on the property. They have 50 acres of vineyards on location, with additional vines on 4th and Frankford. Harvest occurs in August and September, and Pheasant Ridge produces about 5,000 cases per year.
Their specialty is dry wines – blush, red, pinot noir, white, chardonnay, etc. All bottles are very reasonably priced, starting at $5.95 (no, that’s not a typo!) up to $28. A wine tasting costs $5, but that charge is waived if you buy a bottle of wine. Cash, credit or check is accepted. In addition to wine bottles, check out the merchandise for sale. They have t-shirts, wine glasses, and other wine accessories.
Do you happen to work at Texas Tech University? Your job pays off at Pheasant Ridge… you get a 30% discount off of your ticket.
If you happen to travel or live outside of Lubbock, feel free to call the winery and get your order shipped anywhere in the United States.
I’ll admit that my iPhone did fail getting me to the proper address of the winery. We’ve got you taken care of with this map we created. Coming from Lubbock on 1-27, exit right after you see New Deal Stadium (which will be on your right). Click on the image for full size!
